Privacy Policy — N7500 Dashboard
Effective date: September 16, 2026
N7500 Dashboard ("the app") is a radio-control utility for the VGC/Vero
VR-N7500 and its Bluetooth-controlled "Benshi" sibling radios (BTech
UV-Pro, Radioddity GA-5WB, Vero VR-N75/VR-N76/VR-N7600, BTech GMRS-Pro,
Radtel RT-660), developed by David ODell.
Data Collection
The app does not use analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting services
of any kind, and has no account system or backend server of its own. The
one exception, described in full below, is the optional Roam feature: when
you use it, your approximate location is sent to RepeaterBook.com to look
up nearby repeaters. Nothing else the app does ever leaves your device.
What Data the App Handles
-
Radio channel and configuration data, read from your radio over a direct
Bluetooth connection, is stored
locally on your device only so you can view and edit it
before choosing to write it back to the radio. It is never uploaded
anywhere.
-
Your own RepeaterBook API token, if you enter one (see Roam, below), is
stored locally on your device, encrypted using Android's own
hardware-backed Keystore. It is never sent anywhere except to
RepeaterBook.com itself, to authenticate a Roam lookup.
Roam and Auto Roam (Location Data)
Roam is opt-in — nothing about it runs unless you tap it or turn on Auto
Roam yourself. When it runs:
-
Your phone's current location (latitude/longitude) is read using
Android's own location services, then sent to
RepeaterBook.com's public
API, along with your RepeaterBook token, to search for nearby repeaters.
RepeaterBook.com is a third-party service this app does not control —
see its own site for its privacy practices.
-
That same location is also passed to Android's built-in
reverse-geocoding service (to show a place name like "Austin, TX" above
the results) — on most devices this is handled by Google Play services,
which may itself transmit the coordinates to Google to resolve an
address. This app does not send your location to Google directly; it
asks the operating system for a place name and Android decides how to
answer that request.
-
Auto Roam, once turned on, repeats this process
automatically — checking your location roughly every 5 minutes and
re-running Roam only once you've moved past a distance you choose (5–20
miles) since the last lookup — until you turn it back off. This only
runs while the app is open or recently used; it does not track your
location after the app or your phone has been fully closed/restarted.
-
No location data is stored anywhere except the coordinates and place
name of your own most recent Roam fetch, kept locally on your device
(the same way any other app setting is) so the app can compare against
them the next time Auto Roam checks. This is never transmitted anywhere
except as described above.
Other Permissions
-
Bluetooth (scan and connect) — required to find and
communicate with your radio. Used only for that purpose; the app does
not scan for or connect to any other Bluetooth device.
-
Location (Bluetooth scanning) — on Android versions
before 12, the operating system classifies Bluetooth device scanning as
location-adjacent and requires this permission to perform it, even
though no location data is actually read or used for that purpose. On
Android 12 and later, this permission is not requested for Bluetooth at
all — a newer, non-location Android permission is used instead. (This is
separate from the Location permission Roam requests for its own,
described above.)
-
Internet access — used to check Google Play for app
updates (via Google's standard In-App Update mechanism), and for Roam's
RepeaterBook lookups described above.
Data Retention and Deletion
All app data is stored in the app's own private storage on your device.
Uninstalling the app deletes this data. Nothing is retained anywhere else,
other than whatever RepeaterBook.com itself may retain about a Roam
request on its own servers — see its privacy policy for that.
Children's Privacy
The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data
from anyone.
Changes to This Policy
This policy will be updated if the app's data practices change, and the
effective date above will be updated accordingly.
